Dear JGF Community:
When I accepted this opportunity six years ago the Julian Grace Foundation was a brand-new entity dreaming of a more just world. I was new to the philanthropic sector and believed it was possible for funders to be true partners with nonprofits. And I have valued every moment of being your partner.
Today, I am writing to let you know, after much reflection, I have made the very difficult decision to step down from my position as Executive Director.
Please know this decision did not come easy for me. This position, more than any other in my career, has shaped me as a leader and as a human. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done, from starting youth-led participatory grantmaking boards to increasing our grant payout during the pandemic to respond to urgent needs.
I am particularly proud of the organization’s commitment to advancing racial justice. The philanthropic sector has not historically held itself accountable for dismantling systemic racism and shifting resources and power to Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. It has been a pleasure to learn from and with all of you as we shared this commitment.
Additionally, as I hope you all agree, this team of staff is the most incredible group of humans I have ever worked with in my career. I have been honored to work with them and know they will continue to serve as your partners in this work alongside our board of directors.
Finally, there are not sufficient words to thank you enough for being on this journey with me. I want to thank you for giving me the honor of working with you and playing even a small part in the incredible work you and your organizations do on a daily basis. I have been inspired and challenged in myriad ways by each of you. My life is forever changed because of my relationships with all of you. Simply put, thank you.
My last day will be Thursday, September 1, 2022. This fall I will be starting as a Senior Director at Ktisis Capital. Please note our board will be sharing further details about the transition and search in the coming weeks and months.
Our goal during this transition is to minimize its impact on our grantee partners. Please feel free to reach out in the coming weeks with any questions or concerns. Alex Arias will also continue to be available for any questions about your grant, timelines and payments. I apologize in advance for any delay in response while we manage several details during the transition period.
In partnership,
Alison
