Policies for Invited Applicants

Grant Guidelines:

  • Organizations may normally only apply once a year (Spring or Fall). If organizations have a specific, urgent need for a new or different program/project they may submit an additional request in the same year, if prior approval is given by the Foundation.
  • Organizations may request general operating support or specific program/project support. New organizations should discuss the purpose of their request and amount with staff or a member of the Board of Directors.
  • Grant request amounts generally should not exceed more than 25% of the overall organizational budget, unless previously discussed with the Foundation.
  • Requests for more than $100,000 in general operating support generally will not be approved, unless previously discussed with the Foundation. If an organization is requesting more than $100,000 the request needs to be justified and usage specified.
  • Multi-year gifts will be considered (not guaranteed) for any grantee who has received funds from the Julian Grace Foundation for two or more years. Multi-year grants are meant to support an organization’s growth and capacity. Thus, grantees need to be able to articulate how a multi-year commitment will support their sustainability and growth.
  • We also believe that matching grants are powerful tools in the fundraising toolboxes of the organizations we support. Particularly, for newer organizations or organizations focused on diversifying their funding streams, the foundation will consider making a portion of our grant contingent on the organization raising matching funds.

Grant Application Deadline Policy:

The Julian Grace Foundation accepts the last validated electronic submission of a grant application through the Foundant Grants Management System prior to the predetermined application deadline (5PM CST) as the final and only acceptable submission of any completed grant application. The Julian Grace Foundation will not accept submission of applications after the predetermined deadline under any circumstances. Applicants should reach out to the Julian Grace Foundation at least 3 business days prior to the deadline to discuss any questions, potential missing materials or reasons for an incomplete application.
